Tarot is storytelling, The “Fool's Journey,“ is a great way to learn more about the 22 Major Arcana cards as they represent a stage on the journey, how the journey begins with the childlike innocence of someone just coming into the world and ends with wholeness and contentment of a person who has well learned life's lessons. A card of innocence and new beginnings, and willing to experience all that life has to offer - only a fool because he has yet to gain the experience of life through the journey about to embark upon. The Journey represents the path to self-discovery, growth, and transformation. Eden Gray is credited with coining the term "The Fool's Journey" to describe the Major Arcana of the Tarot.
The cards start at zero with the Fool, signifying beginnings as we set out on a journey. He carries all his worldly possessions in a sack on his back, and his head held high. He is ready to embrace whatever comes his way, but he is also oblivious to the possible dangers indicated by the little dog trying to pull him back. The Fool sets out completely unaware of the hardships he will face as he ventures out to learn the lessons of life.
He goes on to learn, to identify with a group and discovers a sense of belonging within that group. He enjoys learning the customs of his society and showing how well he can conform to them. Eventually, the Fool faces two new challenges. Not only does the Fool need to develop his relationships with others but he also needs to make decisions concerning his own beliefs. He must now commence to question received opinion.
As the Fool grows and matures into an adult, he has developed a strong sense of his own identity and has obtained some mastery over himself. By his own application of discipline and will-power, he has been able to develop the inner control that will enable him to become the master of his environment.
Discover how the Fool's Journey was not foolish after all. Through perseverance, honesty, and courage, he was able to make the journey in search of Self. The Fool will never stop learning and growing.
